DH 125 - Clinical Dental Hygiene I

Credits: 4
Provides the opportunity to implement basic treatment skills with clinic patients.

Prerequisite(s): DH 110 , DH 111 , DH 112 , DH 114 , DH 115 , DH 116 , and DH 118  each with a minimum "C" grade.
Corequisite(s): DH 120 , DH 121 , DH 122 , DH 123 , DH 123L , DH 124A , and LW 206A .

Outcomes and Objectives
  1. Assess treatment plan and implement basic dental hygiene treatment for uncomplicated dental hygiene cases and become familiar with the policies and procedures of the dental hygiene clinic.
    1. Organize and complete required clinical forms.
    2. Demonstrate various skills and services at the stated competency level. Patient Requirements:
      1. Successfully complete uncomplicated patients.
      2. Attend Private Conferences and all Clinical Class Conferences.
      3. Perform assigned Rotation Duties.
      4. Successfully demonstrate each process evaluation (PE) on a clinical patient. Instrumentation PE's must be done on clinical patients.
    3. Demonstrate various skills and competencies in the following areas: medical emergency training, intra oral camera, and digital radiographs.
    4. Function in a professional manner. Direct observation will be made throughout the clinic sessions. Professionalism will be observed. Professionalism for Dental Hygiene students consists of accurate and neat recording of legal records, confidentiality of patient records, professional appearance, proper attitude toward patient care, mature interpersonal relations with all members of the dental health team.
