Introduces the techniques of exposing, processing, and mounting dental radiographs, as well as radiographic interpretation.
Prerequisite(s): DH 110 , DH 111 , DH 112 , DH 114 , DH 115 , DH 116 , DH 118 each with a C (2.0) minimum grade. Corequisite(s): DH 120 , DH 121 , DH 122 , DH 123 , DH 124A , DH 125 , LW 206A Lecture Hours: 0 Lab Hours: 45 Meets MTA Requirement: None Pass/NoCredit: Yes
Outcomes and Objectives
- Expose various series of x-ray radiographs applying standard precautions and ALARA at the specified competency.
- Assess the oral cavity; plan and implement the technique utilizing digital sensor and/or phosphor plates and XCP; and evaluate a Complete Mouth Series (CMS) according to specified criteria
- Assess the oral cavity; plan and implement the technique utilizing digital sensor and/or phosphor plates; and evaluate a Bitewing Series according to specified criteria
- Assess the oral cavity; plan and implement the proper exposure setting on the digital panorex machine; and evaluate a Panorex according to specified criteria
- Complete tasks using x-ray and intraoral camera equipment.
- Utilizing two periapical digital radiographs, demonstrate and explain the Buccal Object rule on a manikin with summative feedback
- Utilizing the Endo Technique and conventional film, expose and develop a periapical radiograph on a manikin with summative feedback
- Utilizing an intraoral camera and standard precautions, take photos of various areas on a classmate with summative feedback
- Utilizing a #2 sensor on a child manikin, expose a mandibular and maxillary occlusal film with summative feedback
- Utilizing the digital panorex machine, expose a bitewing series on a manikin with summative feedback
- Utilizing digital/conventional radiographs, colored pens and a hard copy restorative chart, complete a restorative chart with summative feedback
