The vast majority of water and wastewater treatment plant operators work for local governments. Some work for private water supply and sanitary services companies, many of which provide operation and management services to local governments on a contract basis.

Graduation from this program will prepare you to make application to write the Wastewater Class “D” Operator Certification examination and the entry-level waterworks certification examinations.

Notations

It is highly recommended that students take SCI 107 early in their coursework.
A Grade of “C” (2.0) or higher is required in all Core Courses (SCI 107 , WET 110 , WET 112 , WET 210 , WET 212 , WET 215 , WET 220 , WET 230 , WET 240 , WET 244 , WET 246 and WET 265 )
A student not wishing to take the Michigan Department of Environment Quality Water and Wastewater Entry-Level Exams may replace WET 265 with one of the recommended electives (ENV 100W , ENV 151W , ENV 153 , GLG 130 or GLG 230 ) or an elective approved by the Division Chair or the Program Chair to complete at least 67 credits.
The MTH approved Intermediate Algebra Course requirement can also be met with an acceptable score on the current college assessment instrument. To meet minimum graduation requirements, credits may be replaced from the “Recommended Elective” courses listed (ENV 100W , ENV 151W , ENV 153 , GLG 130 or GLG 230 )
1. ENG 111A , ENG 111B , ENG 111C or ENG 111H can be taken in place of ENG 111
2. ENG 112 , ENG 112H , ENG 112A or ENG 211 can be taken in place of ENG 113
3. CHM 111 and CHM 112 can be taken in place of CHM 105W and CHM 106W
4. POL 105W , POL 212W , POL 215W , POL 220W , POL 221W , POL 223W , POL 225W , POL 228W , HIS 221W , HIS 222W or HIS 237W can be taken in place of POL 103W
5. Any 2 credit LW course or any 1 credit LW course and 1 credit LWA course can be taken in place of LW 221W
