Health Foundations - Advanced Certificate

Program Code: CHA.20530 Advanced Certificate: Upon completion of the Health Foundation Certificate you will have established a broad knowledge base that can lead to potential healthcare careers. The certificate allows an individual to complete coursework that builds or supports other advanced certificate or degree options in career fields like dental assisting, dental hygiene, diagnostic medical sonography, nursing (registered nurse and practical nurse), physical therapist assistant, radiography, respiratory therapy, or surgical technology. Track 1: Certified Nursing Assistant Upon successful completion of the CNA courses you will be eligible to take the Michigan Nurse Aide examination and then meet the requirements to become a certified nursing assistant which can lead to employment in acute or long-term care areas. Track 2: Phlebotomy Technician Upon successful completion of the PHB courses you will be eligible to take the Registered Phlebotomy Technician examination through American Medical Technologists which can lead to employment in laboratory settings.

Notations
- Students who anticipate pursuing another program of study should meet with a Student Success Advisor to align the Health Foundation - Advanced Certificate elective courses with courses required for validation.
- All courses will require a “C” minimum grade to earn the advanced health foundation certificate. However, program specific requirements in related degrees may require higher grade requirements in order to gain admission into the specific program.
- Some courses have English and math prerequisite that must be attained before enrollment in the course.
In addition to tuition, fees, and textbook costs, students should plan for the following expenses following enrollment in the CNA or PHB courses: current physical exam and background check, immunizations (must be up-to-date and remain current), and appropriate lab and clinic attire. Registration with document management system and CPR certification may be required. BLS Provider certification is offered as part of CNA 100W . Students are responsible for providing their own transportation to and from clinical sites and paying possible parking fees. Students are responsible for paying the cost of any medical care that might be necessary if they are injured or become ill as a result of clinical practice activities. The College does not provide insurance coverage for such situations.
