CNA 100W - Certified Nursing Assistant TrainingCredits: 3.7 Instructional Contact Hours: 4
Prepares the student to perform the fundamental skills of the nurse aide. Introduces basic nursing skills, communication skills, restorative services, personal care skills, safety and emergency care issues. Includes knowledge and/or principles of asepsis, OSHA and HIPAA regulations. Examines ethical behaviors, cultural sensitivity and principles of mental health will be addressed, as well as patient/resident rights. Successful completion of CNA 100W & CNA 100LW is required to be eligible to take the State Competency Evaluation Exam. This theory course has a concurrent lab/clinical course.
Prerequisite(s): High School GPA of 2.3 or higher, OR ENG 111 or ENG 111A with a grade of "C" or higher, OR Guided Self-Placement (GSP) recommendation of ENG 111 or ENG 111A or higher AND MTH 117 with a grade of "C" or higher OR Guided Self-Placement (GSP) recommendation of MTH 117A or higher Corequisite(s): CNA 100LW Lecture Hours: 56 Lab Hours: 0 Meets MTA Requirement: None Pass/NoCredit: Yes
Outcomes and Objectives
- Provide quality services to residents in long-term care, home care, and acute care facilities.
- Form a relationship, communicate, and interact competently on a one-to-one basis with the residents (clients/patients).
- Demonstrate sensitivity to residents' emotional, social, and mental health needs through skillfully directed interactions.
- Assist residents in attaining and maintaining functional independence.
- Exhibit behavior in support and promotion of residents’ rights.
- Demonstrate observational and documentation skills needed in the assessment of residents’ health, physical condition, and well-being.
