MIT 226 - Manufacturing AutomationCredits: 3 Instructional Contact Hours: 3
This course is designed to provide a comprehensive review of automated manufacturing. Students will perform automated machine setup and adjustment, operate and monitor system operations, perform preventive and predictive maintenance, and analyze and optimize system operations. With specialized instruction, individuals will also learn the technical skills needed to operate and monitor equipment for the simulated manufacturing and to troubleshoot, maintain, and repair the specialized equipment used in this process. Students will work in a cleanroom.

Outcomes and Objectives
- Students will operate an automated manufacturing system in a cleanroom environment.
- Use proper Personal Protective Equipment, PPE, such as OSHA approved safety glasses, cleanroom suits, gloves, and shoe coverings.
- Practice the protocols for cleanroom suit gowning.
- Use proper cleaning technologies, disinfection and sanitization materials and techniques.
- Practice accessing & following operating procedures and checklists.
- Apply appropriate OSHA standards.
- Follow safety protocols and procedures and use OSHA Safety Data Sheets, SDS.
- Students will learn the fundamentals of automated manufacturing and operate components of a manufacturing system.
- Complete standard work procedures while wearing proper cleanroom PPE.
- Use hand-tools to perform inspection, maintenance, and repair of manufacturing equipment.
- Operate an automated manufacturing system.
- Operate and monitor equipment for the simulated manufacturing and troubleshoot, maintain, and repair the specialized equipment used in this process.
- Students will learn the fundamentals of robotic applications and operate components of a robotic manufacturing system.
- Operate cobots/robot.
- Operate components of robotics/sensors, actuators, and end-of-arm tooling.
- Demonstrate and understanding of industrial automation and robotics.
- Demonstrate an understanding of integration of a robot with automated manufacturing equipment.
