MIT 225 - Introduction to Cleanroom Processes

This course will develop your skills as a technician to work in a cleanroom environment. Students will learn about what a cleanroom is, why it's important to gown up to work in a cleanroom and have a broad introduction to semiconductor processing. It includes many hands-on trainings in the cleanroom itself to prepare you for a technician job in a manufacturing cleanroom environment. Students will also work in a cleanroom environment on a weekly basis learning how to don & doff a bunny suit, accessing & following operating procedures and checklists while observing safety, and use hand-tools to perform maintenance activities.

Outcomes and Objectives

1. Students will learn about the cleanroom environment.

Practice cleanroom management and cleanroom design requirements.
Practice cleanroom classifications and sources of contamination in cleanrooms.
Practice non-viable airborne particle standards and monitoring.
Apply airborne and surface standards and monitoring.
Practice proper cleaning technologies, disinfection and sanitization materials and techniques.
Practice training methods for proper contamination control.

2. Perform standard work procedures efficiently in a semiconductor manufacturing cleanroom environment with a focus on participating as a team in pre-task planning, and accurately completing tasks in a digital checklist accessed in shared productivity tools.

Use proper Personal Protective Equipment, PPE, such as OSHA approved safety glasses, cleanroom suits, gloves, and shoe coverings.
Practice the protocols for cleanroom suit gowning.
Follow operating procedures and checklists.
Apply appropriate OSHA standards.
Use OSHA Safety Data Sheets, and SDS while following safety protocols and procedures.

3. Demonstrate the capability of working safely in a cleanroom environment for appropriate gowning and cleanliness standards.

Use hand-tools to perform activities such as measurements or maintenance while wearing proper cleanroom PPE.
Complete standard work procedures while wearing proper cleanroom PPE.
