Outcomes and Objectives

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of the basic operations of the ultrasound machine.
    1. Identify controls for machine function such as on/off button, print and transducer adjustments, calipers and depth control.
    2. Identify controls for scanning optimization such as TGC, gain, focal zone, zoom/magnify, harmonics, spatial compound imaging.
    3. Identify controls for image annotation
    4. List ideal transducer frequencies for the object being scanned
  2. Demonstrate knowledge of imaging scan planes as they pertain to abdomen/pelvis sonographic imaging.
    1. Define the following:
      1. Coronal plane
      2. Sagittal plane
      3. Transverse plane
    2. Demonstrate the following scan positions:
      1. Supine / prone
      2. LLD / RLD
      3. RPO / LPO
