Provides the opportunity to practice and increase the students' proficiency skill levels of advanced instruments from previous Dental Hygiene courses.
Prerequisite(s): DH 124B , DH 130 , DH 131 , DH 135 , and LWA 206B , each with a “C” (2.0) minimum grade. Corequisite(s): DH 210W , DH 213 , DH 214W , DH 216W and DH 219W . Lecture Hours: 15 Lab Hours: 180 Meets MTA Requirement: None Pass/NoCredit: No
Outcomes and Objectives
- Assess the treatment of adult and geriatric patients with moderate to severe periodontal involvement and the treatment of medically compromised patients.
- Demonstrate patient assessments by methodically collecting, analyzing and documenting oral and systemic data.
- Formulate a summary of health and dental hygiene diagnosis.
- Plan the treatment of adult and geriatric patients with moderate to severe periodontal involvement and the treatment of medically compromised patients.
- Determine goals for the process of care in terms of treatment needs, patient commitment and timeframe.
- Analyze risk factors for disease in order to implement the appropriate dental hygiene interventions.
- Utilize critical decision-making skills in evaluating assessment data to create a comprehensive treatment plan.
- Implement the treatment of adult and geriatric patients with moderate to severe periodontal involvement and the treatment of medically compromised patients.
- Demonstrate communication skills with patients in regard to conditions, needs, treatment and commitment.
- Provide preventative education and therapeutic services to aid patients’ achievement of oral health goal(s).
