Today's fitness industry is rapidly growing. Being a group exercise instructor is no longer about teaching aerobics. The modern group fitness instructor may be expected to teach a variety of specialties such as step aerobics, indoor cycling, yoga, Pilates, cardio kickboxing, weight training and conditioning, stability ball, and senior or child fitness classes. This program will offer the education and certification to teach safe and effective exercise to a wide variety of populations. An understanding of human anatomy and physiology will also be included. Upon completion of this program, you will be eligible to sit for the American Council on Exercise (ACE) certification exam.

THIS CERTIFICATE IS PART OF A LADDERED PROGRAM. CREDITS EARNED MAY BE APPLIED TOWARDS COMPLETION OF A HEALTH FITNESS SPECIALIST - ASSOCIATE IN APPLIED SCIENCE DEGREE, A HEALTH FITNESS SPECIALIST DUAL WITH MANAGMENT AAS/ABS DEGREE or a PHYSICAL THERAPIST ASSISTANT DUAL WITH HEALTH FITNESS SPECIALIST AAS/AAS DEGREE.

  1. A grade of “C” (2.0) or better is required for BIO, HSC, LW, LWA, and LWT courses.
  2.   LWT 230 , and LWT 242  are offered in the Fall semester only.
  3. You will be required to take the American Council on Exercise (ACE) Group Fitness Instructor Certification Exam while taking LWT 242  Group Fitness Instructor. You are responsible for the fees for this examination.
  4. Current CPR certification is required for ACE Group Fitness Instructor Certification Exam and must remain current. You should confirm with your instructor when this needs to be achieved by. American Heart Association is preferred, and this can be achieved in LWT 165 , LWT 170 , or HSC 140 .
