SKEL 134 - Lineworker Climbing Techniques

Credits: 5
Provides participants with the basic knowledge and pole climbing skills necessary to progress through the Lineworker/Electrical Utility Program. Student is responsible for climbing equipment, tools, and foul weather gear as required. Cost may exceed $200.

Prerequisite(s): Current validation for Lineworker Level I program
Corequisite(s): SKEL 136  and SKEL 138 .

Outcomes and Objectives
  1. Demonstrate basic knowledge of pole climbing and safety techniques
    1. Inspect and maintain climbing equipment
    2. Inspect poles for safety prior to climbing
    3. Climb wooden poles using defined criteria
    4. Perform “Freestyle” and “Bucking” climbing techniques
    5. Demonstrate proper use of fall restraint equipment
    6. Demonstrate basic knot tying skills
    7. Demonstrate and perform secondary level Hurtman Rescue
