RT 216 - Rehabilitation and Home Care

Presents the theory and application of skills required to provide pulmonary rehabilitation and home care.

Prerequisite(s): RT 150   with a minimum grade of “C”
Corequisite(s): RT 207 , RT 212 , RT 214 , RT 226 , RT 229 , RT 231

Outcomes and Objectives
  1. Demonstrate, through successful completion of written examination and/or return demonstration, the ability to:
    1. Select, demonstrate, and teach and explain the basis for rehabilitative maneuvers and relate to physiology and pathology.
    2. Describe the pathology, socio-emotional aspects, and life style of the typical chronic respiratory patient likely to be receiving rehabilitation and/or home care.
    3. Demonstrate and teach the set-up and maintenance of home care equipment to include:
      1. Home care ventilators
      2. Oxygen concentrators/tanks
      3. Liquid oxygen
      4. CPAP/BiPAP systems
      5. Oxygen conserving devices
    4. Describe a typical smoking cessation program.
    5. Counsel patients and family members regarding a smoking cessation program.
    6. Describe a typical sleep study program.
