Outcomes and Objectives
- Describe and explain the concepts and components of Swimming I.
- Explain the following physical laws of swimming:
- Newton's laws of motion
- Form drag, wave drag, and body surface drag
- Describe and explain the basic rules of water safety and the importance of following these rules.
- Describe and explain a minimum of five of the physical fitness benefits of swimming on a regular basis.
- Demonstrate the concepts and components of Swimming I.
- Demonstrate the following swimming skills:
- Front crawl with rhythmic breathing (25 yds.)
- Back crawl (25 yds.)
- Elementary backstroke (25 yds)
- Sidestroke (25 yds.)
- Breaststroke (25 yds.)
- Jump into water and swim 25 yards
- Basic short dive
- Demonstrate the following safety skills:
- Relieving a cramp
- Reaching assists
- Extension assists
- Throwing assists
- Treading water
- Proper use of a Personal Floatation Device (PFD)
- Demonstrate a proficiency in endurance by swimming 12 lengths of the pool.
- Demonstrate the ability to chart their progress through the use of a journal.
