PTA 101 - Applied Clinical Anatomy ICredits: 2 Instructional Contact Hours: 2
Provides skeletal anatomy concepts necessary to implement procedures utilized in physical therapy practice. Provides the technical and data collection knowledge necessary to assist a physical therapist with goniometry. Prepares the student to perform physical therapy intervention as part of a physical therapist's plan of care, under the direction and supervision of the physical therapist.
Prerequisite(s): HSC 105 ; Admission to Physical Therapist Assistant program. Corequisite(s): PTA 101LW , PTA 103 , PTA 110 , PTA 110L , and PTA 118. Lecture Hours: 30 Lab Hours: 0 Meets MTA Requirement: None Pass/NoCredit: Yes

- Compare and contrast structural and functional differences between the hip and shoulder.
- Describe the articular surface of the acetabulum.
- Explain the angle of inclination and the angle of torsion.
- Describe selected bursae of the body joints and locations.
- Identify normative ROM values for the lower extremity joints.
- Discuss the human skeletal system.
- Determine relevant anatomical information to communicate to patients, peers, caregivers, and other health care professionals.
- Recognize situations that require further clarification, supervision, or action by the supervising physical therapist.
- Explain anatomical components of the body in relationship to specific symptoms, diseases or disease processes.

- Identify the parts of a goniometer.

- Define the concepts of active and passive insufficiency.

- Discuss relevant potential legal and ethical issues as well as responses to each issue.
