Provides further opportunity to present specific case documentation on dental patients' conditions/treatments.

Outcomes and Objectives
1. Evaluate case studies as they relate to dental hygiene practice and the process of care.
- Analyze the purpose, audience, and goals of a case study, emphasizing its role in patient care and professional development.
- Extract and evaluate important patient information for effective treatment planning and decision making.
- Identify the components necessary for developing and documenting a comprehensive case, including medical history, clinical findings, and treatment plans.
- Distinguish signs and symptoms of various medical, dental, and periodontal conditions, and explain how they impact case documentation and treatment planning.
- Recognize risk factors and behaviors that exacerbate disease and their relevance in patient management.
- Self-assess areas for improvement based on performance in practice case studies, evaluation questions, and feedback from peers or instructors.
- Collaborate with peers to share strategies improve in areas of improvement while fostering a team-based approach to patient care.
2. Present a Comprehensive Case Study Patient
- Obtain, review, and update medical and dental histories for case study development, ensuring accuracy and relevance to patient care.
- Recognize health conditions and medications that influence overall patient care and integrate them into case documentation.
- Select, obtain, and interpret diagnostic information, understanding the advantages and limitations of various diagnostic tools including radiographs, intraoral photos, and case study models.
- Recognize and discuss predisposing and etiologic factors that require intervention to guide prevention and treatment strategies.
- Use assessment findings and clinical data to formulate a dental hygiene diagnosis.
- Establish a care plan that addresses both clinical findings and patient goals.
- Establish a planned sequence of care to deliver patient-centered and evidence-based hygiene interventions.
- Implement dental hygiene interventions as part of the treatment plan, ensuring documentation of the processes and outcomes.
- Analyze the outcomes of hygiene interventions using indices, clinical examination techniques, and patient feedback.
- Evaluate the patient’s satisfaction with the care received and assess their progress toward achieving oral health goals.
- Plan and provide subsequent treatment or referrals based on the outcomes of the evaluation and case analysis.
- Develop and maintain a maintenance program for patients, incorporating preventive care and regular follow-ups based on evaluation findings.
- Communicate effectively rationale for treatment considerations based on the dental hygiene process of care.
- Apply verbal and nonverbal communication skills to effectively interact with the target audience.
- Apply professional judgment and ethical conduct during presentation.
- Respond appropriately to feedback and questions following presentation.
