  1. Analyze the Role of Case Development and Documentation in Dental Hygiene Practice
  1. Define case study in the context of dental hygiene.
  2. Analyze the purpose, audience, and goals of a case study, emphasizing its role in patient care and professional development.
  3. Understand how to dissect case study scenarios to extract essential information for effective treatment planning and decision making.
  4. Define common terminology used in case study evaluations.
  5. Identify the components necessary for developing and documenting a comprehensive case, including medical history, clinical findings, and treatment plans.
  6. Critique former case study research reports to understand common approaches, strengths, and areas for improvement.
  7. Distinguish signs and symptoms of various dental and periodontal conditions, recognizing how they impact case documentation.
  8. Recognize risk factors and behaviors that exacerbate disease, and their relevance in patient management.
  9. Self-assess areas for improvement based on performance in practice case studies, evaluation questions, and feedback from peers or instructors.
  10. Collaborate with peers to share strategies improve in areas of improvement while fostering a team-based approach to patient care.
  1. Develop a Comprehensive Case Study Patient
  1. Obtain, review, and update medical and dental histories for case study development, ensuring accuracy and relevance to patient care.
  2. Recognize health conditions and medications that influence overall patient care and integrate them into case documentation.
  3. Select, obtain, and interpret diagnostic information, understanding the advantages and limitations of various diagnostic tools including radiographs, intraoral photos, and case study models.
  4. Recognize predisposing and etiologic factors that require intervention to guide disease prevention and treatment strategies.
  5. Use assessment findings and clinical data to formulate a dental hygiene diagnosis.
  6. Establish a care plan that addresses both clinical findings and patient goals.
  7. Establish a planned sequence of care to deliver patient-centered and evidence-based hygiene interventions.
  8. Implement dental hygiene interventions as part of the treatment plan, ensuring documentation of the processes and outcomes.
  9. Analyze the outcomes of hygiene interventions using indices, clinical examination techniques, and patient feedback.
  10. Evaluate the patient’s satisfaction with the care received and assess their progress toward achieving oral health goals.
  11. Plan and provide subsequent treatment or referrals based on the outcomes of the evaluation and case analysis.
  12. Develop and maintain a maintenance program for patients, incorporating preventive care and regular follow-ups based on evaluation findings.
