Provides strategies and opportunities to practice skills to enhance success in licensure exams, position searches, and private practice.
Prerequisite(s): DH 210W , DH 213 , DH 214W , DH 215 , DH 216W , and DH 219W with a minimum grade of “C” (2.0). Corequisite(s): DH 222W , DH 225 , DH 227W , DH 228 , and LWA 206C Lecture Hours: 15 Lab Hours: 30 Meets MTA Requirement: None Pass/NoCredit: No
Outcomes and Objectives
- Demonstrate knowledge of dental hygiene for successful completion of the dental hygiene national and state (regional) licensing examinations.
- Complete the HESI practice exam(s).
- Identify deficient dental hygiene subject knowledge areas.
- Develop a study plan to increase dental hygiene knowledge base.
- Develop test-taking skills and strategies.
- Identify the exam criteria of the ADEX clinical exam.
- Identify the scoring criteria of the ADEX clinical exam.
- Practice the procedure of the ADEX clinical examination.
- Participate in the ADEX orientation.
- Participate in the mock ADEX clinical exercises.
- Prepare for state licensing as a Registered Dental Hygienist.
- Complete the application for Michigan Dental Hygiene licensure.
- Meet with a Delta College advisor and apply for graduation.
- Discuss the current laws and rules governing the dental hygiene practice.
- Discuss the ethics of patient care.
- Prepare for employment as a Registered Dental Hygienist.
- Construct a cover letter and resume.
- Demonstrate effective interviewing techniques.
- Participate in simulated private practice clinical exercises to increase efficiency.
- List the insurance codes for common dental hygiene services.
- Demonstrate professionalism during private practice clinical exercises.
- Discuss the implementation of HIPAA in private practice.
- Interview a graduate to gain knowledge of clinical dental hygiene in a private practice office.
- Compare and contrast the clinical dental hygiene educational experience to employment as a registered dental hygienist.
- Identify career paths available to a registered dental hygienist.
- Research career opportunities for the dental hygienist.
- Compare and contrast the careers including required level of education, type of degree, professional experience, work responsibilities and earning potential.
- Research degree completion, an alternative career as a registered dental hygienist or relocating for a position.
