Evaluation of Transfer Credits From Other Institutions, Training Programs or Examination Programs

  1. Only official transcripts will be evaluated. Delta College will only accept incoming transcripts that have appropriate signatures and seals and have been sent directly to the College from an issuing institution. Transcripts in the possession of the student or copies of transcripts or grade reports may be used for academic advising, but no transfer credits will be posted to the Delta College academic transcript from these documents.
  2. Official transcripts should be submitted to the Delta College Registrar's Office from the transfer institution. Transcripts received from a Michigan college or university at least one month prior to a registration period will generally be evaluated within two weeks of receipt. More time may be necessary to evaluate transcripts from out-of-state institutions.
  3. Credits only, not grades, are accepted in transfer. Grades earned at another school in courses accepted by Delta College are not entered on the permanent Delta academic transcript or calculated in the Delta College cumulative grade point average.
  4. A maximum of 38 credits acquired through transfer, training, or examination programs may be used toward registration priority.
  5. The credit value of each course accepted in transfer will be determined by Delta College; the number of credits will never be greater than the Delta College equivalent course, but the number granted may be fewer than the number of credits received at the transfer institution.
  6. Transfer credit granted will be shown on the student’s permanent academic transcript.

Acceptance of Transfer Credits from the Other Institutions

A. Regionally Accredited Institutions

Course work completed at a college or university accredited by one of the seven *Regional Accrediting Associations of Colleges and Schools (See below) will be considered according to the following guidelines:

  1. Equivalent Course Work
Freshman and sophomore level courses are accepted in transfer. Higher level credits are accepted if they correspond to a specific course at Delta College. If Delta College does not have a department or area similar to the courses on the incoming transcripts, no credit will be awarded. Academic credit will not be granted for courses below the 100 level. A minimum of a “C” (2.0) grade on a 4.0 scale is required in each course for transfer.

  2. Non-Equivalent Course Work
“General Elective” credit will be granted for courses completed with a grade of “C” (2.0) or above on a 4.0 scale that are not equivalent to Delta College courses or disciplines. “General Elective” credit applicable to Humanities, Social Science, Science, or Lab Science will be so noted on the student’s Delta transcript.

F. Articulation Agreements with High Schools and Career Centers

High School and Career Technical Education Articulation is a process by which students can earn college credits for career and technical courses they take in high school or at a technical center.  Delta College partners with high schools and career technical centers to create and maintain articulation agreements that outline transferrable coursework to Delta.  These agreements are signed contracts between both institutions and are re-evaluated on a regular basis.  Articulated high school or technical center credit is intended to be used exclusively towards the attainment of a degree at Delta and is not intended for transfer.  Earned articulation credit reduces repetition and saves students time and money.  Students who complete a career technical education (CTE) or high school course with a grade of B or higher, within two (2) years of high school graduation are eligible for articulated credit.  Once the student has been admitted to the College and has met all the criteria in the current high school or technical center articulation agreement, the articulated credit(s) will be posted to the student’s transcript.

General Conditions & Requirements for CTE Students to receive Articulation credit:

  1. Students must attend Delta College within two years of completing the course to be granted college credit.  Articulated credit will expire in September, two school years after the student completes the course.
  2. Students may be granted articulation credit for the Delta College course(s) within the agreement upon successful completion of the equivalent at their high school or technical center.

       Successful completion is validated by:

a) achieving a minimum grade of “B” in the course

b) the CTE teacher should feel confident that the student can successfully complete subsequent courses at Delta

c) the CTE teacher must be a signatory on the articulation agreement

  3. Credits articulated will become part of the total number of credits for program completion solely at Delta College and will appear on the student’s Delta College transcript by course code and credit hours. No grades will be recorded.  Articulated courses can be viewed on the student’s transcript through Student Self-Service.

  4. Tuition and fees will not be charged for articulated credits.

  5. All articulating students shall meet and maintain Delta College entrance requirements and shall have declared a pertinent major.

Further information may be obtained by contacting the Delta College Articulation Office at articulation@delta.edu or (989) 686-9567.  More detailed information is published on the Secondary Articulation webpage at www.delta.edu/artic.
