Program Code: DE.30570

Dual associate degrees are available in several Health curricula and the Automotive Service Technology curricula with the General Management Program. Generally, the requirements are completed simultaneously; however, the health fitness specialist courses normally will be completed prior to beginning your clinical sequence. Your diploma will list both the Associate in Applied Science Degree and the Associate in Health Fitness Specialist Degree.

You will need to earn the required number of credits for your Associate in Applied Science Degree plus 24 credits from the courses below for the Associate in Applied Science Health Fitness Specialist Dual Degree.

If you have earned a degree previously, you may not use courses from that degree to satisfy the requirements of a Dual Degree. It is possible that your previous degree may have included one or more of the required Health Fitness Specialist courses. You do not have to retake such classes, but must replace them from the list of approved Health Fitness Specialist courses under the dual degree to complete the additional 24 credits by instruction at Delta College.

Notations

  1. Students must complete the Validation Application and receive a "Semester and Year of Validation" to be eligible to enter the program. It is recommended that this application be submitted during the final semester of pre-requisite courses. Validation is a process that allows the Registrar's Office to review and confirm that the student has completed the prerequisite courses and met the requirements of this program.
  2. It is important to review program requirements prior to and following Validation for the nursing program. Nursing Discipline Office 989-686-9500
  3. Validation requirements: 1) completion of prerequisite courses BIO 152W  or equivalent, BIO 153W  or equivalent, ENG 111 , and PHM 285  with a minimum grade of “B” (3.0) and completion of BIO 203W , ENG 112  or equivalent, LW 222 , MTH 117 , and PHL 215W  or equivalent with a minimum grade of “C” (2.0); 2) Students must maintain a 2.5 GPA or higher in the prerequisite course required for validation. 3) Completion of BIO 152W  and BIO 153W   or equivalents within the past five years is required for validation. If this time period is exceeded, an approved biology course must be taken to refresh this content. Please see the nursing program coordinator to determine which course(s) must be taken. 4) It is recommended that BIO 203W  be current within ten years. 5) During final semester of prerequisite courses students must submit the validation application to the Registrar’s Office.
  4. POL 103W  or equivalent, PSY 211W , and SOC 211W  are required for graduation with a minimum grade of “C” (2.0) and completion of these courses is strongly recommended prior to starting the clinical course sequence.  If pursuing a BSN degree, PHL 215W  is recommended.
  5. It is recommended students meet with the program coordinator prior to validation to disclose any previous convictions, felony or misdemeanor, and/or traffic violations involving controlled substances. All students are required to complete a Criminal Background Check with the approved agency following successful clinical entry registration. Results of the background check will be secured and kept confidential, but may be shared with clinical agencies when requested or as otherwise required by law. If results indicate a felony/misdemeanor conviction, the Nursing Program Coordinator will discuss the findings and the process with the student. Clinical sites may restrict students with a criminal record from being placed at the facility which could prohibit course completion and progression in the program. Graduates may be ineligible to sit for the Nursing Licensure examination. Questions regarding licensure can be found at http://www.michigan.gov/healthlicense or be directed to the Michigan Board of Nursing at 517-335-0918.
  6. Once validated, students must waitlist themselves during each Special Clinical Registration Period for their clinical program track to be eligible to begin the program and to remain validated.  Failure to complete the waitlist process will result in removal from the validation list.  See the validation page on the website for more information and dates.
  7. RN Full-Time Clinical Track courses start each Fall and Winter Semester with NUR 101AW . RN Part-Time Clinical Track courses start each Fall semester with NPT 102AW . The Part-Time program runs year round. When a student validates they must select the Full-Time or Part-Time Track. They will remain validated, if the appropriate steps are followed, for that program until enter the program via special clinical registration. Once the student is in the clinical sequence there is some flexibility between tracks, but requests to change tracks will go through the Nursing Review Board for approval based on the seating availability.
  8. Students are required to provide documentation of current or prior certification as a Nursing Assistant (CNA) in the State of Michigan or documentation of competency in basic nursing skills, prior to entrance into the first clinical course. These requirements will be discussed at the required orientation along with submission instructions via an electronic storage and clinical placement system. Basic Nursing Skills Requirement available upon request.

The cost of licensure is the responsibility of the student.
