As a phlebotomist, you'll draw blood from patients and take blood specimens to the laboratory to prepare for testing. You must be attentive to detail, work well under pressure, have excellent manual dexterity, great communication skills and really enjoy working with people. Become an important member of the clinical laboratory team.
Upon successful of the PHB courses you will be eligible to take the Phlebotomy Technician Certification examination through American Medical Certification Association which can lead to employment in laboratory settings.
A. Students who anticipate pursuing another program of study, such as the health foundations advanced certificate, should meet with Counseling & Advising to align the phlebotomy technician certificate courses with the required elective courses required for validation.
B. All courses will require a “C” minimum grade to earn the Phlebotomy Technician certificate. However, program specific requirements in related degrees may require higher grade requirements in order to gain admission into the specific program.
C. Some courses have prerequisite courses or reading, writing and math levels that must be attained before enrollment in the course.
D. In addition to tuition, fees, and textbook costs, students should plan for the following expenses following enrollment in the PHB courses: current physical exam and background check, immunizations (must be up-to-date and remain current), and appropriate lab and clinic attire. Registration with document management system and CPR certification may be required.
E. Students are responsible for providing their own transportation to and from clinical sites and paying possible parking fees. Students are responsible for paying the cost of any care that might be necessary if they are injured or become ill as a result of clinical practice activities. The College does not provide insurance coverage for such situations.
