Associate in Science Degree - AS

This degree is designed to allow you to complete required general education introductory courses for your intended program of study at a college or university.  This degree is primarily intended for students attempting to complete a bachelors, or higher, program of study.  It is crucial to consult with a Student Success Advisor on proper course selections to align with your ultimate transfer and career goals.

Program Requirements Meeting the Michigan Transfer Agreement:


Students wishing to fulfill the Michigan Transfer Agreement (MTA) must successfully complete at least 30 credits of MTA approved courses, with a minimum of a “C” (2.0) or better in each course. Students are encouraged to consult with a Student Success Advisor about course selection based on transfer destination.

College Composition I


  • ENG - Any College Composition I course from approved list below

Approved courses are  ENG 111A , ENG 111B , ENG 111C , ENG 111H , or ENG 111 

College Composition II


  • ENG - Any College Composition II course from approved list below

Approved courses are ENG 112A , ENG 112H , ENG 112 , ENG 113 , ENG 211H , or ENG 211 .

Humanities


Humanities courses must be from two different subjects.

Social Sciences


  • Foundational Civics - Any POL or HIS course from approved list found under the Foundational Civics requirement below
  • Additional Social Science elective from the MTA Approved List 

Social Science courses must be from two different subjects.

Natural Science


Natural Science courses must be from two different subjects.

Mathematics


Additional Requirements


Foundational Civics


  • Complete a minimum of 3 credits in any Foundational Civics course from approved list below

Approved courses are any Political Science course POL 232W  or below, or any History course HIS 237W  or below.

POL 105W  and HIS 237W  will satisfy both the Foundational Civics and Civic Engagement graduation requirements.

Civic Engagement


  • Any Civic Engagement option from approved list below

Approved options are:

A course that includes the civic engagement project in its outcome and objectives - These courses are POL 105W , HIS 237W , IHU 120W /SSI 120W , IHU 240W /SSI 240W , or JRN 111W .

OR

A Civic Engagement project (1 credit) - A faculty member must supervise this project, either as a project tied to a course, or as individualized instruction.

OR

A designated Service Learning course across the curriculum - SL will appear after the course designation.

POL 105W  and HIS 237W  will satisfy both the Foundational Civics and Civic Engagement graduation requirements.

Lifelong Wellness


  • Complete a minimum of 2 credits in any set of Lifelong Wellness course options from approved list below

Approved course options are:

Any one of LW 221W  (2 credits), LW 222  (3 credits), LW 223W  (2 credits), LWT 214  (2 credits), LWT 230  (3 credits), LWT 240  (4 credits), LWT 242  (4 credits), or LWT 251  (4 credits).

OR

LW 220W   (1 credit) AND any LWA (1 credit).

OR

LWT 210   (3 credits) AND any LWA (1 credit).

OR

LWT 245   (3 credits) AND any LWA (1 credit).

OR

LW 206A   (1 credit), LWA 206B  (0.5 credits), AND LWA 206C  (0.5 credits).

Students with special considerations for exercise should reach out to the course instructor, program coordinator, and/or Office of Disability Resources for exercise accommodations when appropriate. The Lifelong Wellness Activity (LWA) 1 credit class can be waived with a full season of intercollegiate athletics validated by the Athletic Director.

Science Electives


  • Any Natural Science, Mathematics, or Computer Science courses from approved list below.  The total credits from the three science categories (Natural Science, Mathematics, and Science Electives) must be a minimum of 21

Approved Natural Science courses are from the MTA Approved List .

Approved Mathematics courses are MTH 120  or above from the MTA Approved List .

Approved Computer Science courses are CST 180 , CST 183 , or CST 283 .

Additional Electives


  • Electives to meet the overall 62 credits required for degree
