Introduces the PN competencies of Human Flourishing, Nursing Judgment, Professional Identity, and Spirit of Inquiry. Includes opportunities to practice clinical nursing skills and techniques in the care of adults in selected clinical facilities. This lab course has a concurrent theory course.

Outcomes and Objectives

Demonstrate Human Flourishing, Nursing Judgment, and Spirit of Inquiry while developing Professional Identity as a PN to improve the quality of care for patients, families and communities.
1. Identify and uphold ethical and legal guidelines that relate to the LPN scope of practice.
2. Collect and interpret pertinent assessment data.
3. Document and communicate adult assessment findings utilizing appropriate medical terminology and abbreviations in a clear and concise manner.
4. Outline and define the nursing process and describe the framework it provides for delivery of nursing care.
5. Recognize and adhere to professional behaviors outlined in the Nursing Handbook.
6. Seek opportunities to increase personal knowledge and professional growth.
7. Demonstrate safe performance of nursing skills and medication administration (per facility policy) in the provision of nursing care to 1-2 adults.
8. Identify and practice elements of therapeutic communication while maintaining confidentiality of patient information.
9. Identify and discuss the roles of the healthcare team, including the registered nurse, licensed practical nurse, and the nursing assistant.
