ASL 113 - American Sign Language Fingerspelling ACredits: 1 Introduces the smallest meaningful units of American Sign Language. Focuses on fingerspelling as a part of the communication process of American Sign Language in order to recognize and generate hand shapes and numbers used in American Sign Language. Addresses expressive and receptive skills.

Outcomes and Objectives
- Increase receptive fingerspelling skills.
- Recognize fingerspelled words at or near functional speed in the context of a conversation.
- Require fewer repetitions of a fingerspelled word before recognizing it in the context of a sentence or story.
- Recall and recognize alternate handshapes of certain fingerspelled letters in context.
- Know and recognize the manual alphabet and numbers in ASL.
- Recognize fingerspelled “loan” signs.
- Increase production skills in expressive fingerspelling.
- Increase functionality of fingerspelling.
- Increase speed of fingerspelling.
- Produce the manual alphabet and numbers.
- Choose and produce palm orientation, location, movement and handshape of numbers in expressing cardinal, ordinal, time and age numbers.
- Demonstrate production of fingerspelled “loan” signs when prompted.
- Demonstrate ability to interact with others using ASL.
- Practice the rules of ASL to use fingerspelling appropriately.
- Use fingerspelling as a part of ASL to interact with members of the signing community.
- Communicate with other students using ASL, including fingerspelling.
