SKET 107 - Applied Electricity II

Furthers the study of electrical applications. Provides an in-depth study of frequency, peak-effective-average voltage, inductance, capacitance, three phase power, resistive circuits, coils, capacitors, lost power, and power factor correction.

Outcomes and Objectives
  1. Identify relationships in an electrical circuit.
    1. Identify AC relationships in a circuit that contains resistors.
    2. Calculate values of an inductor when connected to a resistive or reactive circuit.
    3. Calculate values of a capacitor when connected to a resistive or reactive circuit.
    4. Calculate a series RL circuit.
    5. Calculate a parallel RL circuit.
    6. Calculate a series RC circuit.
    7. Calculate a parallel RC circuit.
    8. Calculate a series RLC circuit.
    9. Calculate a parallel RLC circuit.
    10. Calculate impedance.
  2. Apply various AC principles to an electrical circuit.
    1. Identify/connect the coils of various transformers.
    2. Identify/connect the coils of various motors.
    3. Identify/connect various controls circuits that have inductors or capacitors.
    4. Using given or measured values, calculate lost power.
    5. Identify real world implications/applications of harmonic frequencies.
  3. Identify and apply electrical meter to solve real world problems.
    1. Identify safety considerations when using a meter or tester.
    2. Measure supply voltages.
    3. Measure load voltages.
    4. Measure specific voltages in various parts of a circuit.
    5. Measure three phase voltage/amperes.
    6. Determine resistances with a volt-ohm-meter.
