RC 203 - Residential CAD

Credits: 3
Introduces residential design using a 3-D drawing program. Moves from basic plan replication to the designing, drawing, and plotting of a set of construction drawings.

Outcomes and Objectives
  1. Develop computer literacy skills.
    1. Create and save files to multiple destinations.
    2. Demonstrate the concept of file management.
  2. Utilize the basic data of the main screen menus.
    1. Identify and use the pull down menus.
    2. Create their own customized toobars.
    3. Investigate all the zoom and camera functions.
  3. Build a plan default scheme.
    1. Create defaults for multiple tools.
    2. Create and save a plan default
    3. Demonstrate how to start a new plan.
    4. Select and create wall types (default and customized).
  4. Draw a basic residential floor plan and foundation plan.
    1. Create rooms with walls, railing and room off.
    2. Properly label rooms.
    3. Alter floor heights and ceiling heights.
    4. Complete dimenson of floor plan and foudnation plan.
    5. Builds stairs from fllor to floor ( utilize “open below”).
    6. Add appropriate symbols to floor plan and foundation plan (doors, windows, cabinets, fire place, fixtures etc.) with the use of the “Library.”
    7. Demonstrate the various functions of the auto roof generator.
    8. Utilize the manual roof techniques.
    9. Add detail into drawings using 2D CAD Tools.
    10. Use CAD details to control the use of additional darwings based on original floor plan.
  5. Produce and plot a basic set of construction drawings.
    1. Create a layout “o” page.
    2. Send drawings to layout pages.
    3. Plot a layout.
