RAD 160 - Clinical Education 2Credits: 10 Instructional Contact Hours: 10
Provides students with the opportunities to apply, practice and perfect the skills needed to function as a radiographer. The second phase with structured clinical experience necessary to perform radiographic procedures. The students will continue to work within the radiology department and hospital. Up to 25% of the student's scheduled time may be on off-shift rotations as scheduled by the clinical education center. A minimum of two week on afternoon shift and one weekend will be scheduled during this clinical sequence.
Prerequisite(s): RAD 135 , RAD 140W , RAD 235 , RAD 235L , RAD 264 each with a “C” (2.0) minimum grade Corequisite(s): RAD 165W , RAD 212 Lecture Hours: 0 Lab Hours: 600 Meets MTA Requirement: None Pass/NoCredit: No
Outcomes and Objectives - Demonstrate knowledge and skills in performing radiographic examinations.
- Display professionalism in manners, language, and dress.
- Demonstrate punctuality.
- Work professionally within the hospital organization and radiology department including:
- Location of emergency equipment
- Location of various departments
- Radiology department workflow
- Hospital and radiology department computer systems
- Hospital emergency policies and protocols
- Demonstrate ability to set up all/any equipment necessary to perform exams related to radiographic procedures.
- Analyze and demonstrate ability to communicate with patients and staff taking into consideration age level, condition, and situation.
- Demonstrate the worth and dignity of each and every patient.
- Differentiate and critique each radiograph taken during an exam.
- Apply and integrate knowledge of related anatomy and positioning to the production of quality radiographs.
- Document patient history.
- Recognize any serious complication where a deviation in technique or position may occur.
- Apply appropriate technique for each patient and situation.
- Demonstrate continued proficiency in all previously passed competencies.
- Practice and enhance critical thinking and problem solving skills as they pertain to the care of patients and the performance of radiographic procedures.
