Outcomes and Objectives  

1.    Demonstrate information literacy related to the surgical first assistant.
2.    Discuss the expectations of the surgical first assistant in the healthcare setting.

A.    Define current strategies such as Six Sigma and Lean management to promote patient care.

3.    Review the role of the surgical assistant in the healthcare setting.

A.    Evaluate the job description of the surgical first assistant.
B.    Explore the profession as an independent practitioner.
C.    Describe effective business practices.
D.    Analyze the significance of HCAHPS (Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and System) and patient/physician satisfaction to the success of the team and healthcare organization. 

4.    Analyze ethical and moral responsibilities relevant to the surgical assistant.
5.    Demonstrate appropriate communication skills for the surgical first assistant.
