Gains supervised clinical experience in a Sterile Processing Department.
Prerequisite(s): BIO 101W or BIO 140W or BIO 152W , ENG 111 , HSC 105 , LWT 170 or HSC 140 , and SPT 110 with a “C” (2.0) minimum grade.

Outcomes and Objectives
- Demonstrate the correct protocol for chemical monitoring and peel packing
- Select and demonstrate the appropriate use of sterilization process monitors, including temperature, air entrapment tests, chemical indicators, and biological monitoring.
- Apply documentation principles to sterile processing and risk management.
- Understand the principles of packaging according to AAMI.
- Apply appropriate skills while functioning as a technician in the central sterile processing department and decontamination
- Select the appropriate methods and demonstrate the skills to receive, decontaminate, clean, prepare, disinfect & sterilize reusable items.
- Demonstrate the fundamental procurement skills regarding the procurement and receiving of supplies and equipment.
- Use Universal Precautions during decontamination of surgical instruments and equipment.
- Apply AAMI standards while working in preparation, packaging, and sterilization
- Analyze the process of sterilization.
- Properly load carts for sterilization.
- Select appropriate peel packs for single packed instruments.
- Demonstrate knowledge of storage, shelf life, or inventory management.
- Compose central service records for processing, maintenance, distribution, inventory control, reprocess, disposal and/or recall.
- Analyze and select the appropriate shelf life for stored sterile items based on the scenario given.
- Describe methods of reprocessing, recall, and the use of expiration dates.
