Studies the safe operation of construction and woodworking equipment. Introduces the fundamentals of the building process; floors, walls, and roof systems. Requires participation in an active lab that practices safe use of tools and building system knowledge that supports on-site building projects.

Outcomes and Objectives  

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of the safe operation of tools and machines commonly used in the residential construction industry.
    1. Commit to memory and demonstrate the safe operation of the following equipment:
      1. Table saw
      2. Mitre saw
      3. Planer
      4. Router
      5. Radial arm saw
      6. Router table and shaper
      7. Circular saw
      8. Reciprocating saw
      9. Pneumatic tools
      10. Hand tools
  2. Properly label the parts of the building systems.
  3. Explain the function and importance of the various parts of the building systems.
  4. Discriminate between alternative building methods in the completion of the building systems.
  5. Illustrate the understanding of the building systems through practical hands-on opportunities.
