Outcomes and Objectives - Describe the rocks and geologic formations of the northern lower peninsula.
- State the three major classes of rocks.
- Explain the rock cycle.

- Classify by rock type, and identify unknown rocks on the basis of their physical properties.
- Explain the process of fossilization and describe rocks likely to contain fossils.
- Discriminate different types of fossils from hand specimens.
- Contrast relative vs. absolute time and their usage in dating fossils.
- Outline the steps in the fossilization process.
- Explain and identify geologic features found in northern lower Michigan.
