ASL 281 - American Sign Language Field Experience/Practicum ICredits: 4 Instructional Contact Hours: 5
Provides field placement and practicum to apply expressive and receptive skills in a real world setting using American Sign Language. Emphasizes hands-on experience through interaction with members of the Deaf community. Must have approval from the program coordinator. May be subject to passing a background check by an appropriate agency.
Prerequisite(s): Minimum grade of “B” in all classes: ASL 111 , ASL 112 , ASL 115 , ASL 200W , ASL 211 , and ASL 212 . Three of the following courses: COM 114W , COM 222 , COM 224W , COM 245W , IHU 280W , PSY 101W , and PSY 211W . Corequisite(s): None Lecture Hours: 10 Lab Hours: 60 Meets MTA Requirement: None Pass/NoCredit: Yes
Outcomes and Objectives
- Successfully complete 60 hours of field experience/practicum.
- Demonstrate the ability to collaborate with members of the Deaf Community.
- Maintain a journal chronicling experiences and detailing settings.
