MGT 270 - Supply Chain Management

Introduces the skills and knowledge required of managers with regard to global supply chain management.  Identifies components that make up a supply chain including supply, production, inventory, storage, distribution, and sales that connect via digital, material, financial and informational links. Emphasizes purchasing, sourcing, logistics, supply management, information systems, customer service, sustainability, and other challenges facing managers in the 21st century.  Uses problem solving and critical thinking develop solutions for the expanding role of a supply chain system.

Prerequisite(s): ENG 111  or OAT 151  and  MGT 153W  with a minimum grade of "C".  MGT 265  is recommended and can be taken concurrently

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of the fundamentals surrounding operational activities called "supply management".
    1. Explain how efficient and effective supply chains can add value and help organizations compete in the changing global market.
    2. Discuss the development and changes in supply chain management in leading organizations.
  2. Demonstrate an understanding of the logistical and supply chain challenges faced by organizations.
    1. Explain the fundamentals of supply chain within the context of the Supply Chain Operations Reference Model.
    2. Demonstrate an understanding of purchasing, procurement and sourcing in the supply chain.
    3. Demonstrate an understanding of how the role global economic, political, sustainability, and health concerns affect the supply chain.
    4. Explain the role of productivity and quality metrics for improving the operations of an organization.
    5. Identify the key steps in order fulfillment, and the channel structures used in that process.
  3. Analyze the cross chain logistics processes that are necessary for a successful business.
    1. Describe how the effective management of inventories are critical for the success of any organization.
    2. Examine the decisions required to affect fulfillment operations and warehousing activities.
    3. Discuss the role of the transportation system within an organization's supply chain process.
  4. Illustrate the issues or challenges facing supply chain managers in the global economy.
    1. Demonstrate an understanding of the types of supply chain relationships and the importance of alignment.
    2. Analyze the financial impacts of supply chain failures.
    3. Discuss the critical issues in digital, technology selection, and implementation.
  5. Use communication skills to demonstrate an understanding of management and logistics.
    1. Research, write, and present on various case analysis throughout the semester.
