PHB 101 - Phlebotomy Technician Clinical

Provides students with the opportunity to supplement coursework with practical clinical experience related to their educational program. Students work under the immediate supervision and guidance of experienced personnel at the health facility location.

Prerequisite(s): PHB 100  with “C” 2.0 or better.

Outcomes and Objectives  

  1. Demonstrate competency in basic phlebotomy skills with patients in laboratory settings.
    1. Form a relationship, communicate, and interact competently on a one-to-one basis with patients.
    2. Properly and safely perform a variety of blood collection methods in a variety of healthcare settings.
    3. Properly collect blood and body fluid specimens utilizing infection prevention techniques, proper patient identification, proper specimen labeling, and quality assurance.
    4. Properly handle, process, and accession patient specimens; blood and non-blood.
    5. Apply all the ethical, legal, and HIPAA aspects of a phlebotomist.
