RC 205 - Cabinet Making and Millwork

Studies the design and construction, placement, and installation procedures of cabinets used in residential buildings. Explains basic cabinet design and the wood working techniques used to build cabinetry. Studies and practices the installation of cabinets and storage shelving systems in a lab and an on-site construction setting.

Outcomes and Objectives  

  1. Demonstrate the safe use of both hand and power carpentry tools.
    1. Demonstrate the safe use and setup of a table saw.
    2. Demonstrate the safe use and setup of a planer.
    3. Demonstrate the safe use and setup of a radial arm saw.
    4. Demonstrate the safe use and setup of a miter saw.
    5. Demonstrate the safe use and setup of a shaper.
    6. Demonstrate the safe use and setup of a router.
  2. Practice safe tool use and woodworking joinery skills to complete required start up projects.
  3. Apply terminology associated with cabinet construction industry.
  4. Design and develop a cabinetry project identifying all joints and components using proper terminology.
    1. Create a cabinet construction drawing/s.
    2. Produce a cut list.
    3. Complete a cost estimate.
    4. Build the cabinet design.
  5. Gain knowledge regarding the layout and installation of cabinetry.
  6. Install cabinet elements in a construction setting.
