DMS 100 - Patient Care and Management

Develops knowledge and skills in basic concepts of patient care. Includes emergency care procedures, infection control, patient safety and transfers, communication, and patient education.

Prerequisite(s): Must be accepted into the DMS program.
Corequisite(s): DMS 105W , DMS 107 , DMS 107L , DMS 108W .

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of the roles and responsibilities of healthcare professions to work effectively in the healthcare environment.
    1. Identify members of the healthcare team
    2. Describe goals of the healthcare team
    3.  Describe the hierarchy and various departments of a healthcare system
  2. Demonstrate the ability to evaluate and manage the  needs of the patient.
    1. Describe methods for evaluation of patient status
    2. Describe vital signs used to assess patient condition
    3. List temperature values for each method of temperature measurement
    4.  List normal respiration rates for the adult and child
    5. Describe the monitoring method for respiration rate
    6. List normal values for blood pressure
