GLG 268 - International Studies in Geology

Instructional Contact Hours: 1-4

Provides a geologic interpretation of selected world regions. Emphasis on physical environments, natural geologic processes, and geologic history of the study area. Includes class lectures, individual consultation, and international field study. Expenses for the field study are the responsibility of the student.

  1. Demonstrate first hand knowledge of the geologic history in selected international locations.
    1. Visit significant geologic sites in the region.
    2. Discuss the geologic development and history resulting in the present landscape.
    3. Identify recent geologic processes that have interacted to form the physical landscape.
  2. Maintain an academic journal and field notes documenting your learning and travel experience.
    1. Respond to the geologic experiences.

  4. Examine the local geology of a specific site in region of study.
    1. Read assigned materials to gain an understanding of the geology of the site.
    2. Discuss specific timely topics.
    3. Present views and encourage the members of the class to respond to the specific topic assigned and covered in tutorial with instructor(s).
  5. Examine the cultural impact geology has had on the region.
    1. Describe and discuss the significance local geology has had on the history and culture of the region.
    2. Discuss how human activities have influenced the development of geologic resources or hazards within the region.
