Outcomes and Objectives
- Analyze literature in the subject area.
- Interpret the meanings of literary works using various theoretical approaches.
- Identify various literary genres (i.e. national history, poetry, narrative).
- Demonstrate analytical understanding through writing.
- Explain the elements which distinguish between works of the Old Testament.
- Identify details of dominant themes and motif gained from close reading of various books in the Old Testament.
- Participate in writing to learn activities.
- Perform writing tasks to promote learning.
- Write effectively for a specific audience and purpose.
- Demonstrate the learning of concepts through writing.
- Write an interpretation of a specific work from the Old Testament which explains dominant themes and motifs.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the cultural and historical context for this body of literature.
- Identify differences of place and time, and how those shape the writings of the Old Testament.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the world of the Old Testament compared to the contemporary world.
- Identify and consider metaphysical issues based on an understanding of the Old Testament readings (such issues as the nature of God and God's relationship with humanity).
