The Delta College Criminal Justice program is designed to give you specialized knowledge of the criminal justice field combined with a broad general educational background. The program offers theoretical, practical, and technical instruction designed to meet an ever-increasing demand and continuous upgrading of personnel by law enforcement agencies. As a graduate of this program, depending on the option chosen, you would be prepared to seek employment as a police officer, corrections officer, conservation officer, public safety dispatcher, juvenile officer, private security, or prepare for careers in probation/parole/courts, federal government, CSI, detective, pre-law and many other related careers.

Notations


  1. A grade of “C” (2.0) or higher is required in all core courses.
  2. If proficiency can be demonstrated in Keyboarding and Computer Concepts, additional electives may be substituted for the CST and/or OAT courses. Keyboarding waiver test is available for OAT 170 . Contact the BIT Division office, 989-686-9127, to arrange for waiver test.
  3. May substitute an approved natural science elective including MTH 119W  or higher with a grade of “C” or better for CJ 220W . Please refer to the MTA information in the catalog. Lab science credit in two different areas would be particularly useful for transferring to a 4-year school and is required in the fulfillment of the MACRAO agreement.
  4. This program does not certify you for employment as a police officer as it does not incorporate the Basic Police Training (B.P.T.) Program.
  5. Employment within the Criminal Justice field may be delayed or denied depending on a history of convictions involving felonies, misdemeanors, and/or involving controlled substances.
  6. You may be eligible for the Michigan Transfer Agreement (MTA). Consult the current catalog for MTA requirements.
    1. COM 114W  or COM 222  can be taken in place of COM 112W  
    2. ENG 111A , ENG 111 , ENG 111C , or ENG 111H  can be taken in place of ENG 111  
    3. ENG 113 , ENG 112A , or ENG 112H  can be taken in place of ENG 112  
    4. Any 1 credit LW and LWA or 2 credit LW can be taken in place of LW 221W  
    5. POL 105W   or POL 212W  can be taken in place of POL 103W  
    6. Take any course that meets the Natural Science Lab category
