Provides an awareness of Deaf culture and ensures that students accomplish an intermediate level of functional communication competency in American Sign Language (ASL).  According to the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL)  the intermediate level is based on the ability to successfully handle uncomplicated communicative tasks in straightforward social situations i.e. exchange of of information, expressing physical and social needs and responding to direct questions.  Not only that, the speakers will be able to accurately understand basic exchanges in sentence length communication on the submect of common and everyday topics.  It includes a study of Deaf Culture and its history along with sign language.
